We support the local communities

  • We offer 50% discount for Belizean residents in our activities.

  • Every time a new guest comes to Bocawina Rainforest Resort & Adventures or participates on any of the activities they pay an entrance fee of $10 BZ ($5 US) per person or $2 BZ for Belize residents to the Mayflower Bocawina National Park (We do not collect this fee).

  • We donated money to expand the public library for the Garifuna children of Hopkins.

Sustainable practices at Bocawina

Ecotourism and sustainability issues regarding the operation of a resort in the jungle are our priority and we enjoy seeing our guests acting responsibly towards the environment.

The dream is to have a place where people from every walk of life can come and commune with nature, where couples and families can find that quality time together while learning how to preserve our Mother Earth.

  • Bocawina is completely “off the grid”. We are powered by our own Eco-friendly Hydroelectric power station and Solar panelswith a backup generator;

  • We have a Solar powered golf car;

  • We grow some of our vegetables in our organic garden;

  • We recycle glass and plastic bottles;

  • We use cooling with ceiling fans rather than air conditioning;

  • We use compact fluorescent light bulbs and LED lights on most of the areas;

  • We minimize the use of electrical lighting;

  • Exterior lights have their own solar panels and motion detection to minimize it's use, which reduces the effect of light pollutionaffecting the normal patterns of nocturnal animals;

Belize as an Ecotourism destination

The features that make Belize a promisor Ecotourism destination are that most of its native forests remain untouched (70%); about 28% of its terrestrial area is protected for conservation and sustainable tourism; the population density is very low (12 persons per square km) which makes it the most sparsely populated country in Central America; a high number of Mayan ruin sites; it has the second largest barrier reef in the world and a high level of biodiversity.

In fact, Belize is the country with more percentage of forest cover in all Central America. Besides that, Belize is a quiet, peaceful, relatively safe, politically stable and English speaking country.
